So, I decided to start a label. Really nice! Hard work, takes a lot of time, doesn't pay the rent but it is fun! Besides mailing, promo, selecting tunes, listening, listening one more time, making Youtube vids, Youtube friends, haters;-) creating art works, upload everything and upload it one more time. I still can say it is FUN! So, I'd like to introduce some artists of Jssst Records and their tracks: Jssst Records 002 by Arno Burmania: It is a very good catchy techno tune, I like it a lot. Arno could eat Techno for breakfast and that's only the start of the day. He's doing a radio show (Live From The Loft) as well and he has played on the Amsterdam Dance Event in 2011. I heard some other tracks by him and I can say that he's a talented guy. Keep an eye on him! Jssst Records 003 by Steve Mos: A very deep melodic Techno tune that reminds of some work done by the legend from London, Max Cooper. He has released some Trance/Progressive tunes and now he has reinvented himself with a more laid-back deeper style. And that's what we like! Talented guy as well. Steve is an active DJ in Montreal's underground scene and will release more tracks in the future. Jssst Records 004 by Cloud_pilot: A bit old skoolish (but in the GOOD way!) Heavily influenced by 'Acid House'. I also heard some other tracks and he's got a very distinctive and so good style! Influences come from the late 80's and Acid. Talented for sure. He's done some DJ gigs as well. More releases by him will follow! Alright, these are the first three artists besides me that will represent Jssst Records. Artists that follow their heart and do what they have to do. Building frequencies, translate that into music and feed the world in a good way! Stay (de)tuned,
Joost aka Jssst. @jssstrecords

The year is almost gone. Time flies, especially 2k12. That year went pretty fast. 2k13 will go faster! Last year was pretty cool for me as ‘Jssst’ the DJ and Youtube Producer. I’ve had different milestones in 2k12, where I dreamt of a couple of years ago. I’ll name you a few: I’ve had my first gig on the radio, my first gig in a club and my very first official release! Some stats: 100 uploads on Youtube. 10 000 followers on Twitter. 100 000 Total video views on Youtube. I’m proud of that, thank you! Okay, my radio gig wasn’t that good. But I did it and I was nervous, but that’s a good thing. And I made mistakes, but I’ve learned from that. Besides it was the very first time I played ‘The Pioneers CDj’s’ and all live on the radio. So, I jizzled in my pants but with 'Cojones'! Okay, the gigs were mostly on Monday. Not really prime time, but perfect to work on your skills. And I’ve become a better DJ, last year. Alright, I’m not signed to a huge label. But you have to start somewhere and I’m proud of a release on Delude Records. In 2k13 I will focus on two things. More gigs and I will work on my new label called ‘Jssst Records’. The good thing is that 2k13 will start with a brand new release by me on my new label. On the first of January, my track is in stores! And the year will go fast! More artists are going to release tracks and maybe you, as well. Because dreams can become plans and plans reality. But don’t waste your time, because relative to your whole life, a year in the future is shorter than a year in the past. 2k13 will go fast! Merry X-masss, live the dream.. Jssst P.S. Here I have a x-mass gift 4 u:-)
Enjoy!
Money!! I wanna be filthy rich! Yeah that's what I want to be.. In one of my first blogs I wrote that it isn't about money. That's true, but money is important. I'm not making music for money. I make music, because I want to. But.. money is also important! Unfortunately, I got bills, as well. Just like you.. So, I better combine those facts: 'I need to make music and I need money'. Solution: Make music and sell it. Easy! Yeah, right.. No, that's not the case. I know from experience that most people will not download on iTunes and also won't check me out on Spotify. Alright, you go to a real 'Jssst' gig with all your friends and family and buy a ticket. Okay, but where and when is it? I know from my own experiences that is also pretty hard to get a gig, and when I do have a gig. In most cases people won't pay for a ticket. It is a free gig!! So, I can't make money with it... Okay, but how the freaking hell am I suposed to pay my bills? Solution: Get a proper job. I have, actually I got two jobs. And I like that work. The first job is a worker/trainer in a warehouse (where originally the name 'House' comes from;-). The second one is sharing my knowledge about math to students. Both jobs pay my bills. But I want to combine those jobs. What will we get? Sharing 'House' music to people. Better known as a DJ. I am a DJ! Yeah!! But I'm still in learning proces. Some day that will pay my bills! I hope. Or the worst case scenario will become real. That would be the mad professor who's counting everything, always in the warehouse... dancing on his beats in his twisted mind. But hey, he's able to pay the rent.. Peace out! I'm gonna write something about my latest album called '(10 100 ) 11'. What the hell does that stand for? Actually, it is binary. I make Electronic Music and that is made with computers. And computers only understand computer language. Basically you can bring everything to zeros and ones. 10100 is binary for 20. If you combine 20 and 11, you'll get 2011 and not 31. Cause 31 is the sum, but we're not at school. This is Jssst University, it's different! So, we have 2011 and that's the year I made the album. All tunes are written in 2011. Binary, that's pretty cool!! How does that work? Each digit stands for the power of 2. Binary: Normal: 0 0 1 2^0 = 1 00 0 01 1 11 2^1 + 2^0 = 3 011 3 111 2^2 + 2^1 +2^0 = 7 ... … ... 10100 2^4 + 0 + 2^2 + 0 + 0 = 16 + 4 = 20 QED. The first track of my album is called Playa Den Bossa. It's in Ibiza, great place. One of the best Discoteques is called Space and it is in Playa Den Bossa. In 2011 I arrived in Ibiza, for the second time, and I thought I had booked a hotel in front of Space. At least I was there in 2009, and I thought I had the same hotel. But what did I see? That hotel was totally changed, it was very posh looking. It is better known as Ushuaia, now. A hotel for the rich and famous with regular performances of well known DJ's. Great place! My hotel was a few meters away from this place (You can see my hotel at 00:47 in the video:-). I booked a 1 person room but it has the biggest balcony with sea view and a view on Ushuaia. So, that was perfect!! I had a great holiday. Went clubbing pretty hard, met nice persons and chilled at the pool. Briliant holiday! Next year, I'm there for sure as well. Track 1 of '(10 100) 11' : Jssst - Playa Den Bossa (BBQ edit). Enjoy! Jssst. Aight, so it's time for a new blog. At the moment I really absolutely don't have any idea what to write. If it comes to producing or writing tracks, I never have a lack of inspiration. I always start with something. It could be kick, a bloody bass line, a chord that I love or just a particular sample. If the first step is taken then the second one comes and in the end when I open my eyes, or ears if you prefer, I have the tune. Most of the time I work like that. I just start with something. It's the same with painting, you start with something. The first stroke, the rest comes naturally. F@ck, I was writing a blog, right? What subject?? I think we have a subject. it's creating! Creating is divine! Like a tree or a lil child. It grows naturally. What's life about? I think, it's about two things. It's about growing and / or multiplying. I like girls, but at the moment I don't want kids. I like kids but my kids are my tunes. And they also grow automatically. At least, I hope so.. If u hear one for the first time and then the second time. It will be different. It's the same thing when u hear a piece of music that is repeating. It could be exactly the same piece but the second time it will be different. But what is then the difference? Probably the first time you hear it, your brain doesn't know it. But the second time, your brain knows what's gonna come. That's an interesting fact. Music is dependent of time. I will come back at this topic later, it's interesting. So tunes can grow. At least I hope so.. When I heard Radiohead for the first time, I thought WTF? Same thing for Burial. After a couple of weeks I understood the tracks. They grow.. They are getting multiplied by remixers and shared by others and they grow further. They are trees that grow to the sky. The sky is the limit. Same thing for creativity. It's an infinite source that always will exist, even when you don't know what to write.. Jssst P.S. I don't want to compare my tracks with Burial and Radiohead. Actually I want to do that, but it's impossible. Alright, If Radiohead is a huge tree, then I am a fucking Bonzai. True minimal;-) Haha:-) But tiny trees can grow to the sky.. <3 DJ So, I wanted to be a DJ. But when can you call yourself a DJ? Is it possible to call 'yourself' a DJ? I really don't know but I call myself a DJ, since a couple of weeks. Why? Cause I've had my very first gig for an audience. And that was.. Amazing!! ;-) It wasn't in a club, neither a bar. It was 4 internet radio but live! And that was pretty cool. DJing rocks!! Jouk from XT3-radio invited me to do a set, so I did. Very cool!! Thanks bud:-) DJing is really a cool thing to do. It's so much fun and interesting as well. Last couple of years I mainly focussed on producing, but now I'm also into DJing. Ten years ago I started doing that in my bedroom, but I didn't take it that seriously. Now, I do. I have to, cause bills has to be payed. Via this way is magnificient and I hope that it will work out well. I'm looking for a small club to play on a regular basis and hope to do some gigs as well at different places, this summer. But if you want to make a living out of it, DJing is much more than only playing records. You really got breath music all day and night besides all the other things. But, I love it. Aight, I'm gonna practise more and more and will search 4 the greatest and smallest (cool!) tunes around the globe. And will keep in touch with you via the internet or some day in real life.. <3 Jssst I want to tell you something about Relativity Theory. It isn't about Physics, but of course... Music!. Cause Music Is The Answer ;-) Music is relative!! More general, everything is relative. I mean you could see/hear things relative to other things. Nothing is good/bad or beautiful/ugly. Some ugly things could be beautiful as well, relative to other things. A good example are two songs. If u play them in the right order, then both tunes are good. If it's not the right order, you could experience that the second track isn't good. Djing is an underrated form of Art. A good DJ mixes well, plays the right tracks and last but not least in the right order. Basically, if a DJ set equals the melody then the record equals the notes. U understand? I'll give you an overview: A Melody consists of notes. A sample consists of melodies (Or a sample is one melody:-). A Tune consists of samples. A DJ set consists of tunes. People will appreciate a good melody. Same thing for a sample (Actually, melody and sample could be equal:-). A good track with a stolen sample won't be appreciated. Why not? A DJ is nothing more than some Disc Jockey who plays tracks from other people... In my opinion DJing is Art!! I guess that after reading this story, you will appreciate a DJ more than without this knowledge. So your knowledge is relative, too. Your respect to people, depends of knowing them. Never judge someone if you don't know him/her. Have a conversation, you could find gold :-) I'm out and do respect you for knowing me a lil bit better, Joost P.S Here an example of two 'great' songs in the wrong order... :-) Okay, I will answer this question. It’s very simple. It’s just…., Just! That’s basically it.
So, where does it come from? It comes from my original name, my parents gave me. Officially my name is Jan Joost. So, I deleted the ‘ Jan’ and substituted the ‘O’ for an ‘S’. You understand? Cool! Okay, so what does it stand for? I was wondering what to do with my life and I’ve struggled for more than 10 years with that question. In the end I had an answer and that was: ‘I ‘just’ want to do music. Okay, has ‘Just/Jssst’ more meanings? Definitely, it has. I’ll name you a few: Definition1: Conforming or conformable to rectitude or justice; not doing wrong to any; violating no right orobligation; upright; righteous; honest; true; said both of persons and things. I want to make true, honest tunes and try to respect everyone everywhere in any point of time. Definition2: Precisely; exactly; in place, time, or degree; neither more nor less than is stated. I have a technical back ground and producing tunes is besides creative work also very technical. I like math. At school I was very good at it. At university, not. I kinda lose motivation. Not for pure clean mathematics. But mathematics and real life problems makes mathematics dirty, in my opinion. I like beautiful things. And some real dirty things can be beautiful as well. For example, noisssse. That can be music, if it is mixed properly. But with econometrics, the math wasn’t mixed well. So, I can be very precisely and making tunes is very precisely work. Definition3: Closely; nearly; almost. I like the edgy style of life. That means music, art and life in general. I’m an open minded person and do like things that are on the edge of good/bad, ugly/beautiful, etc. Last, but not least definition 2 and 3 are very contradictive, but the distance between them is small. And that’s another contradiction. it’s me, too! This is who I am, nice to meet you :-) Jssst First blog! It feels like having sex with a girl for the first time. Okay, before that I had some experiences with myself. So I have with blogging as well, cause I tweet. Some call it micro-blogging. This will be macro.
I will write here stories about my life and what's going on in my mind with more than XX characters. We live in a fast world nowadays and the feed of information is infinite. So it isn't that strange that Twitter is pretty popular. It's short, clear and fast. Here I will take it more easy, cause you got all the time in the world. Basically you're the boss of your own life, so your time as well. Be yourself and live your life. I've decided to do that and live for the music, cause that is what really means to me. It isn't about money, it isn't about cars, it isn't about a huge house. For me it is about house Music and a 'Body and Soul' where I feel comfortable in. Then I can live in a room of 9 square meters, totally glad, jssst being happy!!! The feeling you got when you lost your virginity... Joost |
