What’s the secret of this? Why is it perfect? Why can I determine exactly the tempo 128 of a track? I do have some problems with 125 or 133 for example, but I’m able to determine if the tempo of a song is 128 BPM or not. What’s the number 128 and why is it a special number? 128 is the 7th power of 2, therefore the binary representation is 10000000. This looks pretty beautiful, right? You can also write 128 as 2^(8-1). It’s the same number with the same numbers. It’s a Friedman number. Like 347 = 7^3 + 4. 128 is divisible by 1,2,4,8,16,32,64 and 128. So it’s perfect for 4/4 music. And most House / Electronic music is on a 4/4 scale and thats the reason why a lot of tunes are 128 bpm. So, 128 bpm is the perfect tempo. It’s a quote by Richie Hawtin. He’s talking the truth. 128 is also a refactorable number. The number of divisors is 8 and 128 is divisible by 8. Here some other interesting facts about the number 128: The first original Apple Macintosh personal computer was the Macintosh 128k. And Apple is always magic, you know that;-) It’s also the atomic number of unbioctium, an element that isn’t discovered yet. How long will this take? The name is pretty simple Un(=100)Bi(=20)Octium(=8). Easy:-) Back to the music: In ‘General Midi’, the number of musical instruments is 128. General Midi is a standardised specification for music synthesizers. And Shakespeare saw the magic of 128 as well. He wrote this Sonnet in 1601. This is magic. No, it’s music. Sonnet 128 How oft when thou, my music, music play’st Upon that blessèd wood whose motion sounds With thy sweet fingers when thou gently sway’st The wiry concord that mine ear confounds, Do I envy those jacks that nimble leap, To kiss the tender inward of thy hand Whilst my poor lips, which should that harvest reap, At the wood’s boldness by thee blushing stand! To be so tickled, they would change their state And situation with those dancing chips O’er whom thy fingers walk with gentle gait, Making dead wood more blessed than living lips. Since saucy jacks so happy are in this, Give them thy fingers, me thy lips to kiss. Music is magic and 128 is a magic number. Therefore 128 bpm is the perfect tempo, especially in Electronic Dance Music! Cheers:-) Jssst P.S. Sorry if you're allergic to maths. I love it so now and then:-)

The year is almost gone. Time flies, especially 2k12. That year went pretty fast. 2k13 will go faster! Last year was pretty cool for me as ‘Jssst’ the DJ and Youtube Producer. I’ve had different milestones in 2k12, where I dreamt of a couple of years ago. I’ll name you a few: I’ve had my first gig on the radio, my first gig in a club and my very first official release! Some stats: 100 uploads on Youtube. 10 000 followers on Twitter. 100 000 Total video views on Youtube. I’m proud of that, thank you! Okay, my radio gig wasn’t that good. But I did it and I was nervous, but that’s a good thing. And I made mistakes, but I’ve learned from that. Besides it was the very first time I played ‘The Pioneers CDj’s’ and all live on the radio. So, I jizzled in my pants but with 'Cojones'! Okay, the gigs were mostly on Monday. Not really prime time, but perfect to work on your skills. And I’ve become a better DJ, last year. Alright, I’m not signed to a huge label. But you have to start somewhere and I’m proud of a release on Delude Records. In 2k13 I will focus on two things. More gigs and I will work on my new label called ‘Jssst Records’. The good thing is that 2k13 will start with a brand new release by me on my new label. On the first of January, my track is in stores! And the year will go fast! More artists are going to release tracks and maybe you, as well. Because dreams can become plans and plans reality. But don’t waste your time, because relative to your whole life, a year in the future is shorter than a year in the past. 2k13 will go fast! Merry X-masss, live the dream.. Jssst P.S. Here I have a x-mass gift 4 u:-)
Enjoy!
Aight, so it's time for a new blog. At the moment I really absolutely don't have any idea what to write. If it comes to producing or writing tracks, I never have a lack of inspiration. I always start with something. It could be kick, a bloody bass line, a chord that I love or just a particular sample. If the first step is taken then the second one comes and in the end when I open my eyes, or ears if you prefer, I have the tune. Most of the time I work like that. I just start with something. It's the same with painting, you start with something. The first stroke, the rest comes naturally. F@ck, I was writing a blog, right? What subject?? I think we have a subject. it's creating! Creating is divine! Like a tree or a lil child. It grows naturally. What's life about? I think, it's about two things. It's about growing and / or multiplying. I like girls, but at the moment I don't want kids. I like kids but my kids are my tunes. And they also grow automatically. At least, I hope so.. If u hear one for the first time and then the second time. It will be different. It's the same thing when u hear a piece of music that is repeating. It could be exactly the same piece but the second time it will be different. But what is then the difference? Probably the first time you hear it, your brain doesn't know it. But the second time, your brain knows what's gonna come. That's an interesting fact. Music is dependent of time. I will come back at this topic later, it's interesting. So tunes can grow. At least I hope so.. When I heard Radiohead for the first time, I thought WTF? Same thing for Burial. After a couple of weeks I understood the tracks. They grow.. They are getting multiplied by remixers and shared by others and they grow further. They are trees that grow to the sky. The sky is the limit. Same thing for creativity. It's an infinite source that always will exist, even when you don't know what to write.. Jssst P.S. I don't want to compare my tracks with Burial and Radiohead. Actually I want to do that, but it's impossible. Alright, If Radiohead is a huge tree, then I am a fucking Bonzai. True minimal;-) Haha:-) But tiny trees can grow to the sky.. <3 I want to tell you something about Relativity Theory. It isn't about Physics, but of course... Music!. Cause Music Is The Answer ;-) Music is relative!! More general, everything is relative. I mean you could see/hear things relative to other things. Nothing is good/bad or beautiful/ugly. Some ugly things could be beautiful as well, relative to other things. A good example are two songs. If u play them in the right order, then both tunes are good. If it's not the right order, you could experience that the second track isn't good. Djing is an underrated form of Art. A good DJ mixes well, plays the right tracks and last but not least in the right order. Basically, if a DJ set equals the melody then the record equals the notes. U understand? I'll give you an overview: A Melody consists of notes. A sample consists of melodies (Or a sample is one melody:-). A Tune consists of samples. A DJ set consists of tunes. People will appreciate a good melody. Same thing for a sample (Actually, melody and sample could be equal:-). A good track with a stolen sample won't be appreciated. Why not? A DJ is nothing more than some Disc Jockey who plays tracks from other people... In my opinion DJing is Art!! I guess that after reading this story, you will appreciate a DJ more than without this knowledge. So your knowledge is relative, too. Your respect to people, depends of knowing them. Never judge someone if you don't know him/her. Have a conversation, you could find gold :-) I'm out and do respect you for knowing me a lil bit better, Joost P.S Here an example of two 'great' songs in the wrong order... :-) |
